Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy is a medical procedure that allows a healthcare provider to visually inspect the inside of the bronchial tubes, which are the airways that lead to the lungs. The procedure is typically performed using a flexible or rigid bronchoscope, which is a long, thin tube that has a light and a camera at the end.
During a bronchoscopy, the bronchoscope is passed through the nose or mouth and into the bronchial tubes. This allows the healthcare provider to view the inside of the lungs and look for any abnormalities, such as tumors, infections, or inflammation. They may also take samples of the tissue or mucus, so they can test it for signs of disease.
There are different types of bronchoscopy, such as flexible bronchoscopy, rigid bronchoscopy, and bronchoscopy with transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB). The type of bronchoscopy performed will depend on the condition being investigated and the patient’s individual situation. Overall, Bronchoscopy is a safe procedure.
